Day 7 - (08/16) Nederland, CO

It’s a beautiful, sunny day … perfect for a short drive into the Rockies.

We left Cheyenne at 9:30am. The 127 mi drive was uneventful. Yep, there are no storms to report so far today. We ate lunch in the trailer along the Peak-to-Peak Hwy (CO Route 72) as we climbed to 8,236 ft. elevation at Nederland.

We’re parked in Stu Horwitz’s front yard. Placement was a bit tricky as you can see from the picture below. Dick is pretty sure Carol had the stone piles, steel post and pine trees placed as an obstacle course to make up for her driving assignment yesterday.
Interesting things:
  • We saw 3 camels just before entering CO. Wonder why?
  • Regular unleaded gas was pretty stable this week. It ranged from $2.349 to $2.699 per gal.

Travel Tip:
We stayed at Restway Travel Park in Cheyenne. On a scale of 10, we rate this one a 2. The advertising far exceeds reality.

We finished the day with a great meal at Neo’s (short for Neopolitan’s) in Nederland. Their meal portions are huge. Dick ordered calzone … Patrick, our server, described it as a “deflated football with sauce”. It was delicious, but two-thirds of it went home in a doggie bag. Carol asked for a half order of pasta and took home half of her dinner.

We plan to tour Rocky Mountain National Park tomorrow.

  1. Hey Carol and Dick, Carl says he is sure glad he didn't have to park the trailer in that tight spot! We are enjoying your blog very much. Your conversational tone and humor along with the pictures makes me think of how much we enjoyed our visit to Ohio. Safe travels! Vickie and Carl
